Interpreting the maps

In the graphic representation of the two genomes, the upper "strand" of each genome is blue, and is written in the 5' to 3' direction, along which the coordinates are increasing left to right. The purple strand is 3' to 5'. The first genome in the title is located on the top. Genes are positioned at their start coordinate along the genome and are represented by a small rectangle. When orthologs are found on strands of the same sense they are depicted in green; when they are found on complementary strands they are shown in red.

Enlarged maps

In the C. pneumoniae x C. trachomatis comparison shown below, there are over 800 genes plotted. As it is difficult to resolve many of these genes at this scale, the map has been divided into 10 sectors, and an enlarged map of each sector prepared. To view the enlarged map of a particular region, position your pointer over the region of interest and click. On the enlarged map the genes themselves are linked to our databases, so if you click on a particular gene, that gene's database record will be displayed. If you look at the bottom of your browser window while pointing at a gene you can see the gene id number displayed.
