tRNA Table for Treponema pallidum

Treponema pallidum appears to possess no fewer than 44 transfer RNA genes as determined by the tRNAscan-SE 1.1 algorithm of T.M.Lowe and S.R.Eddy (Nucl. Acids Res. 25: 955-964, 1997). These tRNAs are potentially modified by a minimum of 7 enzymes and charged by at least 20 aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. The 61 possible triplet codons are said to be covered (Fraser et al., Science 281: 375-388, 1998). Some tRNA genes are clustered and in two cases encompassed by the 16S-23S rRNA genes (see accompanying map).
