From GenBank: Probably involved in the reception and insertion of a subset of proteins at the cytoplasmic membrane. By similarity this protein belongs to the SRP family of GTP-binding proteins.

A P-loop (ATP/GTP-binding site) was discovered at residues 149-156 by using the MOTIF program (URL: www.motif.genome.ad.jp).

Blast Summary:  PSI-Blast Search
A gapped BLAST reveals significant hits to a number of proteins, the most significant of which are the Cell Division Protein FtsY Homologs of M.genitalium, M.pneumoniae and M.hominis. For example: residues 1-351 are 65% similar to FTSY_MYCGE, residues 1-349 are 46% similar to FTSY_MYCPN, and residues 1-346 are 44% similar to FTSY_MYCHO. In addition to these hits, UU141 is also significantly similar to pid:e1185186 (signal recognition particle) of B.subtilis, (also listed as FTSY_BACSU in the GenBank datbase),where residues 27-339 of UU141 are 42% similar. Other significant hits are made against (but are not limited to) the FtsY proteins of A.aeolicus (2983449), H.influenzae (FTSY_HAEIN) and E.coli (FTSY_ECOLI).

A BLAST against the STDPRO database reveals significant hits to the FtsY proteins of M.genitalium(MG297), C.trachomatis(CT820) and T.pallidum(TP-578), in addition to significant hits to the ffh signal recognition particle proteins of all three organisms as well (CT025, MG048 and TP0416).
