Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (EC 6.1.1.-) are a group of enzymes which activate amino acids and transfer them to specific tRNA molecules as the first step in protein biosynthesis. In prokaryotic organisms there are at least twenty different types of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases, one for each different amino acid.

A gapped BLAST reveals a number of significant hits to Cysteinyl-tRNA Synthetase proteins. For example, residues 3-431 are 40% similar to the CysS protein of M.genitalium (SYC_MYCGE). Other significant hits were found, but not limited, to the CysS proteins of M.pneumoniae (SYC_MYCPN), B.subtilis (SYC_BACSU), A.aeolicus (2983551) and E.coli (41203).

A BLAST against the STDPRO database reveals significant matches to the CysS proteins of M.genitalium (MG253), C.trachomatis (CT782) and T.pallidum (TP0091).
