From PDOC00161 (Prosite): Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (EC 6.1.1.-) are a group of enzymes which activate amino acids and transfer them to specific tRNA molecules as the first step in protein biosynthesis. In prokaryotes there are at least 20 aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases, one for each different amino acid.

Blast Summary:  PSI-Blast Search
A gapped BLAST revealed a number of significant hits against the tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase genes from a number of organisms. For example, residues 1-412 are 41% similar to the tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase 1 gene of B.subtilis, residues 4-410 are 40% similar to the tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase gene of B.caldotenax, and residues 4-410 are 39% similar to the tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase of B.stearothermophilus.

Other significant hits were found against the tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase of genes of E.coli (SYY_ECOLI), C.trachomatis (3328456), S.cerevisiae - mitochondrial precursor (SYYM_YEAST), M.leprae (pid:e314276), M.tuberculosis (pid:e332854), M.genitalium (SYY_MYCGE) and B.burgdorferi (pid:g2688267).

A BLAST against the STDPRO database revealed significant hits against the tyrS genes of C.trachomatis (CT062), M.genitalium (MG455) and T.pallidum (TP0834).
