Comment:
All reports seem to indicate that this protein belongs to the family of yabO/yceC/sfhB proteins. These proteins belong to a family of psuedouridine synthases (EC 4.2.1.70) (see Prosite PDOC00869 and PDOC00885 for more information). Pseudouridine synthase, which can also be called Uracil Hydrolyase or Pseudouridylate Synthase (the enzyme's official name), catalyzes the following reaction:

Uracil + D-Ribose 5-Phosphate <=> Pseudouridine 5'-Phosphate +H2O

Blast Summary:  PSI-Blast Search
Gapped BLAST revealed a number of significant hits mostly against hypothetical proteins. The two most significant hits were to the proteins Y370_MYCGE and Y370_MYCPN, both described as hypothetical proteins, but which by similarity belong to the yabO/yceC/sfhB family. Residues 14-264 are 30% similar to the sfhB homolog found in R.prowazekii. A number of other significant hits were found against sfhB homologs, or conserved hypothetical proteins, that belong by similarity to the yabO/yceC/sfhB family.

BLAST results (against the STDPRO database) revealed significant hits against proteins found in the genomes of M.genitalium, C.trachomatis and T.pallidum. For example: residues 14-313 are 34% similar to MG370, a putative pseudoruridylate synthase. Residues 15-289 are 30% similar to MG209, a conserved hypothetical protein. Residues 16-307 and 12-272 are 25% similar to CT658 and CT106 respectively. Residues 85-269 and 85-286 are 27% similar to TP0339 and TP0231 respectively.
