This protein shows significant similiarity to a number of ftsH proteins in other bacteria. Members of the AAA family that contain one AAA domain typically have a large cytoplasmic C-terminal domain that contain both the AAA domain and the protease domains. UU105 is mostly cytoplasmic with its second and last transmembrane domain ending at residue 213. An ATP-GTP binding motif was found at residues 274-294 which closely matches the layout of the M.genitalium protein. In addition, the Zn binding site (done by similarity) in M.genitalium is found at residues 493(His) and 497(His) <....HEAGH....>. In U.urealyticum this same motif is found at residues 498(His) and 501(His) <....HEAGH....>.

AAA stands for 'A'TPases 'A'ssociated with diverse cellular 'A'ctivities. The proteins that belong to this family either contain one or two AAA domains.

FtsH of E.coli also contains a single AAA domain. In E.coli the FtsH protein is an ATP-dependent zinc metallopeptidase that seems to degrade the heat-shock protein sigma-32 factor.
