Comment:
UU100 appears to be the methylation subunit of a type I restriction enzyme system. The E.coli homolog is required for the methylation of specific adenine residues, for both restriction and modification activities. Typically these restriction systems are grouped as three contiguous genes with the M and S subunits forming an operon while the R subunit runs off of its own promoter. (J. Mol. Bio. 1987. 198:159-170.)
