Comment:
This protein should be investigated to see if the mature form is
actually two different proteins.

The amino acid sequence needs to be changed at position 68 from V-> D.

In pathogenic bacteria this protein is essential for the production
and maintenance of functional adhesins on the cell surface. It
could have an important function as a repair enzyme for proteins
that have been inactivated by oxidation. It catalyzes the reversible
oxidation-reduction of methionine sulfoxide in proteins to methionine.

Reaction:
PROTEIN L-METHIONINE + OXIDIZED THIOREDOXIN <=>
PROTEIN L-METHIONINE S-OXIDE + REDUCED THIOREDOXIN.

Blast Summary:  PSI-Blast Search
Gapped BLAST revealed the middle and C-teminal region had significant
hits to peptide methionine sulfoxide reductase while the N-terminal
region had several significant hits to hypothetical proteins. For
example residues 129-281 are 50% similar to peptide methionine
sulfoxide reductase of Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum,(AE000836).
In addition residues 8-126 are 56% similar to Y448_MYCGE, a hypothetical
protein with similarity to PilB proteins.

ProDom Summary:  Protein Domain Search
Residues 156-273 are 50% similar to protein-methionine-S-oxide
reductase of PMSR_FRAAN. Residues 17-100 are 63% similar to
PILB_NEIGO in a region that is shared by many hypothetical proteins.
Residues 102-121 are 85% similar to Y448_MYCPN a hypothetical protein.
