Comment:
The Lon protein participates in hydrolysis of large proteins such as
globin, casein, and denatured serum albumin, in presence of ATP.
It degrades short-lived regulatory and abnormal proteins in the
presence of ATP. It degrades the regulatory proteins RcsA and SulA.
It hydrolyzes two ATPs for each peptide bond cleaved in the protein
substrate.
