This reaction is the first step in proline biosynthesis.

ATP + L-GLUTAMATE = ADP + L-GLUTAMATE 5-PHOSPHATE
(PRODUCT RAPIDLY CYCLIZES TO 5-OXOPROLINE AND ORTHOPHOSPHATE).

Gapped BLAST revealed that this protein is identical to PROB_TREPA,
glutamate 5-kinase of Treponema pallidum,(U61535). In addition it also
revealed several significant hits to other glutamate 5-kinases. For
example residues 10-293 are 33% similar to PROB_HAEIN, glutamate 5-kinase
of Haemophilus influenzae, (U32772).
