Comment:
This protein converts folates to polyglutamate derivatives. It
prefers 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate, rather than 10-formyltetrahydrofolate
as a folate substrate. Bacteria require folate for the biosynthesis
of glycine, methionine, formyl-Met-tRNA, thymidylates, purines, and
pantothenate.

Reaction:
ATP + TETRAHYDROFOLYL-[GLU][N] + L-GLUTAMATE =
ADP + ORTHOPHOSPHATE + TETRAHYDROFOLYL-[GLU][N+1].
