Comment:
This enzyme requires inorganic phosphate and magnesium and is utilized
by both the de novo and the salvage pathways by which endogenously
formed or exogenously added pyrimidine, purine or pyridine bases are
converted to the corresponding ribonucleoside monophosphates.

Reaction:
ATP + D-RIBOSE 5-PHOSPHATE = AMP + 5-PHOSPHO-ALPHA-D-RIBOSE 1-DIPHOSPHATE.
