This enzyme is a tertamer of two alpha chains and two beta chains.
Because of the high similarity between the alpha and beta subunits
it is difficult to determine which subunit this protein belongs to.

Reaction:
PYROPHOSPHATE + D-FRUCTOSE 6-PHOSPHATE =
ORTHOPHOSPHATE + D-FRUCTOSE 1,6-BISPHOSPHATE.
