Comment:
This protein is quite similar to both pyruvate carboxylase (EC 6.4.1.1)
and oxaloacetate decarboxylases (EC 4.1.1.3) however the size of the
protein and location of conserved regions seem to agree with the
protein being oxaloacetate decarboxylase. See TP0057 for the likely
beta subunit (gamma subunit has not been identified).

The catalytic activity of Oad - OXALOACETATE = PYRUVATE + CO(2).

and mammals. For example residues 5-592 are 28% similar to PYC_MOUSE.

Additionally there were many significant hits to oxaloacetate decarboxylases.

decarboxylase precursor of Klebsiella pneumoniae, (accession# J03885).
