From GenBANK (gi:123176): The function of TruA is the formation of pseudouridine at positions 38, 39, and 40 in the anticodon stem and loop of transfer RNAs. It catalyzes the reaction: uracil + d-ribose 5-phosphate = pseudouridine 5'-phosphate + H2O, and belongs to the TruA family of pseudouridine synthases.
