Comment:
From GenBANK (gi:13878636): This protein is responsible for the degradation of inorganic polyphosphates. Orthophosphate is released progressively from the ends of polyphosphate by the reaction: {polyphosphate}(n) + H2O = {polyphosphate}(n-1) + phosphate, requiring a cofactor, magnesium. This protein belongs to the GppA / PPX family.
