Comment:
From GenBANK (gi:1709458): Ogt performs the repair of alkylated guanine in DNA by stoichiometrically transferring the alkyl group at the O-6 position to a cysteine residue in the enzyme. This is a suicide reaction (the enzyme is irreversibly inactivated): DNA (containing o6-methylguanine) + protein l-cysteine = DNA (without o6-methylguanine) + protein s-methyl-l-cysteine.

BLAST hits revealed full-length similarity to Neisserial proteins, but hits to other organisms only corresponded to the C-terminal half of NG0988.
