Comment:
From GenBANK (gi:1168303): AckA is involved in the activation of acetate to acetyl CoA and the secretion of acetate. During anaerobic growth of the organism, this enzyme is also involved in the synthesis of most of the ATP formed catabolically. It catalyzes the reaction: (ATP + acetate = ADP + acetyl phosphate), involved in the first of two steps in the conversion of acetate to acetyl-CoA. This cytoplasmic protein belongs to the acetokinase family.
