From GenBANK (gi:8469108): EPSP synthase (AroA) catalyzes the reaction: phosphoenolpyruvate + 3-phosphoshikimate = orthophosphate + O(5)-(1-carboxyvinyl)-3-phosphoshikimate. It is involved in the sixth step in the biosynthesis of chorismate within the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids (the shikimate pathway). This cytoplasmic monomer belongs to the EPSP synthase family.
