Comment:
From GenBANK (gi:1723883): FolB catalyzes the conversion of 7,8-dihydroneopterin to 6-hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin and can use l-threo-dihydroneopterin and d-erythro-dihydroneopterin as substrates for the formation of 6-hydroxymethyldihydropterin. It can also catalyze the epimerization of carbon 2' of dihydroneopterin and dihydromonapterin at appreciable velocity. The reaction: 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6- (d-erythro-1,2,3-trihydroxypropyl)-7, 8-dihydropteridine = 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropteridine + glycolaldehyde. This is involved in folate biosynthesis. This homooctamer belongs to the DhnA family.
