From GenBANK (gi:9911069): This protein catalyzes the reaction: 2,3-dihydroxy-3-methylbutanoate = 3-methyl-2-oxobutanoate + H2O and binds a cofactor, a 4Fe-4S cluster. This is involved in the fourth step in valine and isoleucine biosynthesis.
