From GenBANK (gi:114188): AroD is involved in the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids by the reaction: 3-dehydroquinate = 3-dehydroshikimate + H2O. This is the third step in the biosynthesis of chorismate within the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids (the shikimate pathway). This homodimer belongs to the type-i 3-dehydroquinase family.
