Comment:
From GenBANK (gi:113641): In E. coli, AlkH catalyzes 2 reactions: 1) 4-hydroxy-2-oxoglutarate = pyruvate + glyoxylate. 2) 2-dehydro-3-deoxy-d-gluconate 6-phosphate = pyruvate + d-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. It is a key enzyme in the entner-doudoroff pathway and participates in the regulation of the intracellular level of glyoxylate. AlkH is a cytoplasmic homotrimer that is constitutive, threefold induction occurs for growth on gluconate and twofold for growth on hexuronic acids. Finally, it also catalyzes the beta-decarboxylation of oxaloacetate.
