From GenBANK (gi:13959591): The function of this protein is the formation of pseudouridine at position 55 in the PSI GC loop of transfer TNAs. This protein catalyzes the reaction: uracil + d-ribose 5-phosphate = pseudouridine 5'-phosphate + H2O, and belongs to the TruB family of pseudouridine synthases.
