Comment:
From GenBANK (gi:1168287): In the rat, this protein is active toward esters of long-chain and very-long chain fatty acids such as palmitoyl-coa and stearoyl-coa. Catalytic activity: acyl-coa + ETF = 2,3-dehydroacyl-coa + reduced ETF, requiring a cofactor, FAD. This is the initial step of the mitochondrial fatty acid beta-oxidation system. The protein is a mitochondrial inner membrane homodimer and belongs to the acyl-coa
dehydrogenases family. Note that a number of straight-chain acyl-coa dehydrogenases of different substrate specificities are present in mammalian tissues.
