Functional Class:
Central intermediary metabolism; Other

Pathway: pathway table
Carbohydrate Metabolism; Propanoate metabolism
Carbohydrate Metabolism; Pyruvate metabolism

Comment:
This enzyme, a homodimer, is involved in the interconversion of acetate and acetyl-CoA via the acetyl phosphate intermediate. In anaerobic growth it provides ATP by catabolyzing acetate phosphate into acetate.

ACK is involved in the secretion of excess carbohydrate. In its catalysis of the interconversion of acetate and acetyl phosphate it appears to favor the formation of acetate.

See Prosite PDOC00826.

Blast Summary:  PSI-Blast Search
Hits in gapped BLAST to acetate kinase sequences, e.g. residues
1-388 are 75% similar to ACKA_MYCPN.
MG357 is similar to T.pallidum TP0476, a predicted acetate kinase
sequence. It shows no significant similarities to C.trachomatis
sequences.
