Disruption of this operon is lethal. This demonstrates that
transamidation is the only pathway to Gln-tRNA in B. subtilis and
that glutamyl-tRNA amidotransferase is a novel and essential
component of the translational apparatus.

Residues 3-469 are 31% similar to PET112 homolog of Synechocystis sp.,
(D90913).
In addition, residues 4-472 are 30% similar to TP1021, glu-tRNA
amidotransferase, subunit B of T. pallidum and residues 4-461 are
31% similar to CT004, PET112 like protein Glu-tRNAGln amidotransferase
B subunit of C. trachomatis.
