The lack of MetK in E. coli results in cell division defects (Newman EB, et al., 1998).

sequences, e.g. residues 1-382 are 71% similar to METK_MYCPN
(MP0094; sp|P78003). MG047 is similar to T. pallidum TP0794 and UU412, both predicted S-adenosylmethionine synthetase. MG047 is also similar to predicted S-adenosylmethionine synthetases from Haemophilus influenzae (U32797), Rickettsia prowazeki (AJ238756), Bacillus subtilis (sp|P54419), Escherichia coli (sp|P04384), among others. It shows no significant similarities to C. trachomatis or C. pneumoniae sequences.
