Comment:
ClpX subunits are thought to provide specificity to the ClpP
enzymatic complex by directing the protease to specific substrates. ClpA, ClpB, ClpC are chaperone proteins, not
regarded to be true heat-shock proteins but are thought to support
degradation of denatured proteins under conditions of high
temperature. They have ATPase activity and provide subunit support
to an ATP-dependent protein, the ClpP.

Through similarity, ClpX belongs to the ClpX subfamily of chaperones.
