Dihydrofolate reductases are ubiquitous enzymes which catalyze the
reduction of folic acid into tetrahydrofolic acid. They can be inhibited by
a number of antagonists such as trimethroprim and methotrexate, which are
used as antibacterial or anticancerous agents.
