Comment:
CLPA, CLPB, CLPC are chaperone proteins, not regarded to be true heat-shock
proteins but which support degradation of denatured proteins under conditions
of high temperature. They have ATPase activity and provide subunit support
to an ATP-dependent endopeptidase, the ClpP. CT286 seems to be more closely
related to
CLPA sequences, such as MECB_BACSU. In B.subtilis, this protein may also have
a
negative regulatory role affecting competence gene expression.

Interestingly, it appears as though Bacillus anthracis has clpC and clpB while B. subtilis has clpC, not clpB ("Co-existence of clpB and clpC in the Bacillaceae." 1999. Namy O, Mock M, Fouet A. FEMS MICROBIOLOGY LETTERS 173(2): 297-302).
