Comment:
Methionyl-tRNA synthetase is probably essential for cell survival, being required not only for elongation of protein synthesis but also for the initiation of all mRNA translation through initiator tRNA(fmet) aminoacylation.
Reaction: ATP + l-methionine + tRNA(met) = AMP + pyrophosphate + l-methionyl-tRNA(met).
Its cofactor is a zinc ion.
It is a homodimer and is located cytoplasmically.
Methionyl-tRNA synthetase has strong similarity to cysteinyl-tRNA synthetase and belongs to class-I aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases.
