Comment:
This sequence is identical to GenBank accession AAC67603 (genome position accession AE001276). Catalyzes the synthesis of ubiquinone-8 from ubiquinol-8. See CPn0102 for the subunit I (cydA). In E. coli, Fnr represses transcription of cydA under anaerobic conditions [see Cotter, P.A., et al., J. Bacteriol. 172(11): 6333-6338 (1990). Also in E. coli, iron-dependent transcription of cydA is independent of Fur. Under anaerobic and iron-limiting conditions, cydA appeared to be elevated slightly (Cotter, P.A., et al., FEMS Microbiol Lett. 79(1-3):227-32 (1992). Also, it is believed that in E. coli the cytochrome b-558-d complex is synthesized as an alternative oxidase for more efficient utilization of oxygen at low oxygen
concentration. By changing the contents of the two terminal oxidases, E. coli cells can maintain efficient oxidative energy conservation over a wide range of oxygen pressures (Kita, K., et al., Methods Enzymol 126:94-113 (1986).
