Comment:
Gly-tRNA synthetases in prokaryotes are typically composed of two subunits, however one appears to be sufficient in trachomatis. ProDom and BLAST results show that residues 9-290 correspond to SYGA and residues 313-990 correspond to SYGB. No similarities to T. pallidum or M. genitalium.

Glycyl-tRNA synthetase alpha chain appears to be a cytoplasmically
located tetramer of two alpha and two beta chains belonging to class-II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases.
Reaction: ATP + l-glycine + tRNA(gly) = AMP + pyrophosphate +
l-glycyl-tRNA(gly).

CT796 is orthologously related to CPn0946: residues 1-1000 of CT796 are 62% similar to residues 5-1009 of CPn0946, a predicted glycyl tRNA synthetase from C. pneumoniae.

CT796 is 96% identical to SYG_CHLTR (U20547), a previously published gly-tRNA synthetase from trachomatis. N-terminal residues align with bacterial alpha subunit sequences whereas C-terminal residues align with bacterial beta subunit sequences. A full alignment is achieved with the gly-tRNA synthetase of Arabidopsis (AJ003069): residues 7-988 are 34% similar to this protein. No similarities to T. pallidum or M. genitalium.
