Comment:
The MurG protein in E.coli is involved in cell wall formation, catalyzing the transfer of a GLCNAC moiety, the last step in peptidoglycan biosynthesis.

Hits in gapped BLAST to MURG proteins (UDP-N-acetylglucosamine transferases ), e.g. residues 3-336 are 31% similar to MURG_HAEIN. Psi-BLAST brings forward hypothetical proteins as well as transferases related to this proposed function.

CT761 is similar to TP0523 in T. pallidum. No similarity to M.genitalium. CT761 is orthologously related to CPn0904: residues 1-352 are 53% similar to CPn0904. This protein is also similar to PG522, a predicted GLCNAC transferase (UDP-N-acetylglucosamine -N-acetylmuramyl-(pentapeptide)-pyrophosphoryl-undecaprenol N acetylglucosamine transferase) from Porphyromonas gingivalis.
