Note: in light of the BLAST alignment to CPn0892, which starts at residue 50 of CT749, the coding region for AlaS from CT749 may start at residue 50 instead of 1.

Alanyl-tRNA synthetase is a cytoplasmically located homotetramer, belonging to
class-II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases.
Its cofactor is zinc.
Reaction: ATP + l-alanine + tRNA(ala) = AMP + pyrophosphate +
l-alanyl-tRNA(ala).
