Comment:
In E.coli, the SPPA protein digests signal peptides in the
process of protein secretion; it is an integral membrane
protein and a homotetramer. See also SOHB proteins.

SohB appears to be a suppressor of htrA (degP, a periplasmic endoprotease, serine
protease in E. coli).

Numerous hits in gapped BLAST to protease IV/endopeptidase IV sequences,
e.g. residues 69-279 are 25% similar to SPPA_SYNY3. CT494 is similar to
TP0997, a predicted protease IV in T.pallidum. No similarity to M.genitalium.

CT494 is orthologously related to CPn0613: residues 13-332 of CT494 are 54%
similar to residues 1-319 of CPn0613, a predicted protein protease
IV/endopeptidase IV from C. pneumoniae.
