This protein is identical to GenBank accession AAC67993. In E.coli, the VacB protein is related to RNB (EC 3.1.13.1), which is responsible for mRNA degradation.

Numerous hits in gapped BLAST to VacB proteins and their homologs, e.g., residues 18-648 are 30% similar to VACB_ECOLI. Residues 27-643 are 27% similar to RNB_ECOLI. CT397 is siilar to TP0805 of T. pallidum, a predicted exoribonuclease II. It is also related to MG104, a putative VacB virulence protein in M. genitalium.
