Comment:
Possibly a bifunctional enzyme -- dehydroquinate dehydratase and shikimate dehydrogenase.
Bifunctional enzymes have been observed in plants. EC 4.2.1.10 involves
the interconversion of 3-dehydroshikimate and 3-dehydroquinate. EC 1.1.1.25
involves the interconversion of shikimate and 3-dehydroshikimate.

This enzyme is part of the shikimate pathway, CT366-CT370.

Numerous hits in gapped BLAST to shikimate 5-dehydrogenase sequences, e.g.
residues 210-450 are 23% similar to AROE_METJA and 21% similar to the enzyme
from A.aeolicus (AE000713). Residues 68-447 are 25% similar to the
dehydroquinase shikimate dehydrogenase from common tobacco (L32794).
Generally, similarities to bacterial proteins involve the C-terminal
residues of CT370.N-terminal residues may have
dehydroquinate dehydratase activity (EC 4.2.1.10). No similarities to T.pallidum or M.genitalium.

CT370 is orthologoously related to CPn1035: residues 1-466 are 43% similar
to CPn1035.
