Comment:
In E. coli, this enzyme converts 1,4-alpha-D-glucosyl-(N) + orthophosphate
to 1,4-alpha-D-glucosyl (N-1) + alpha-D-glucose 1 phosphate.

Phosphorylases (EC 2.4.1.1) are important allosteric enzymes in carbohydrate metabolism. They catalyze the formation of glucose 1-phosphate from polyglucose such as glycogen, starch or maltodextrin. Enzymes from different sources differ in their regulatory mechanisms and their natural substrates. However, all known phosphorylases share catalytic and structural properties. They are pyridoxal-phosphate dependent enzymes; the pyridoxal-P group is attached to a lysine residue around which the sequence is highly conserved and can be used as a signature pattern to detect this class of enzymes.

residues 9-811 are approximately 49% similar to the enzyme from rabbit
muscle (Oryctolagus cuniculus). CT248 is 44% similar to PMSG_ECOLI, an alpha-glycan
phosphorylase and similar to PG629 of P.gingivalis. No similarities to T.pallidum or M.genitalium.

CT248 is similar to CPn0307, a predicted Glycogen Phosphorylase: residues 3-809 are
75% similar to CPn0307.
