Gene ID: CT187

DNA Molecule Name:
1

Genbank ID:

Gene Name:
dnaX  dnaZ

Definition:
DNA polymerase III subunits gamma and tau

Gene Start:
209785

Gene Stop:
208916

Gene Length:
870

Molecular Weight*:
33209

pI*:
10.11

Net Charge*:
10.07

EC:
2.7.7.7

Functional Class:
DNA replication and repair

Pathway: pathway table
Nucleotide Metabolism; Purine metabolism
Nucleotide Metabolism; Pyrimidine metabolism

Comment:
The gamma and tau subunits assist in core formation but are not themselves
constituents of the core pol III. The two proteins are made from the
same coding region, sharing the first 80% in E.coli; the gamma chain
results from programmed frameshifting. See CT334. Also, see CT250,
CT275, CT341, CT396, CT835, CT075.

Blast Summary:  PSI-Blast Search
Numerous hits seen in gapped and Psi-BLAST, e.g., to replication factor c in archaeal
bacteria and to DNA polymerase III subunits gamma and tau, namely DP3X_ECOLI and
DP3X_SALTY, DP3X_BACSU. Residues 60-195 are 28% similar to the DNA polymerase III tau sequence
from T.thermophilus (AF025391). Residues 72-159 are 35% similar to TP1005 of T.pallidum, a
predicted polIII gamma and tau protein. CT187 is also similar to MG420, predicted
polIII subunits from M.genitalium.

CT187 is orthologously related to CPn0272:residues 2-281 are 45% similar to CPn0272.

COGS Summary:  COGS Search
