Comment:
In E. coli this enzyme converts 3-deoxy-D-manno-octulosonate to CMP-3-deoxy-D-manno-octulosonate (CMP-KDO), necessary for the incorporation of KDO into lipid A. See also CT183. Also called CMP KDO synthetase. In light of the ProDom defined similarity to SPSF_BACSU, might this enzyme be involved in elementary body formation? See CT655.
