Comment:
This protein is identical to GenBank accession AAC67614 (genome position accession AE001277). This methylase is thought to promote the oxidation of protoporphyrinogen. (May have DNA methylating activity).

CT024 was assigned the EC number 2.1.1.72 during our original annotation. Comparison of our annotation with the annotation done by KEGGs leads us to re-examine our original annotation.

The top hits in Gapped-BLAST were to protoporphyrinogen oxidases which are assigned the EC number 1.3.3.4 in the Enzyme Data Bank.
Several hits to hypothetical adenine-specific methylases were observed at lower significance levels. The EC number assigned to these proteins by Swiss-Prot is 2.1.1.72.

Phylogenetic analysis did not clearly indicate which group CT024 belongs to.

The difference in annotation between the STD database and the KEGG database for CT024 will remain unresolved until further data is available.

are 57% similar to residues 3-288 of CPn0114, a predicted
protoporphyrinogen oxidase/hypothetical adenine-specific methylase
from C. pneumoniae.

Hits in gapped BLAST to a genus specific protein(S40167) and to ORF2 from C. psittaci(L35036). Other hits in gapped BLAST to HEMK protein sequences, e.g. residues 5-267 are 31% similar to HEMK_ECOLI. Residues 15-267 are 28% similar to TP0052, a predicted hemK sequence in T. pallidum. CT024 is also similar to MG259, a predicted protoporphyrinogen oxidase in M. genitalium.
